The Initial Drain Worked; the Fill Command Never Followed
The dishwasher was not completely dead. It completed its first drain step, then stopped before water entered, which moved diagnosis away from a simple jammed wash pump.
What the cycle sequence established
- The drain pump ran for roughly 20-30 seconds at startup.
- The machine then stopped without filling.
- The circulation pump was not mechanically seized when turned by hand.
- No supply was reported at the water valve when fill should begin.
- The controls still accepted mode selections.
A similar symptom can have a different cause on another dishwasher. This case identified model DFUD242; use the service sequence and wiring information for the exact model.
The two remaining command branches
If the valve is never energized, replacing the valve alone cannot create a missing command. The discussion retained a float-switch state that could inhibit filling and a control-board output that might not send the command.
Moisture exposure near Viking controls was also raised as field experience, but no damage was confirmed in this appliance.
What to record before service
- Time the initial drain and note the exact next sound.
- Check that the supply valve is open and the hose is not visibly kinked.
- Record any standing water or float movement.
- Photograph the full model label because DFUD revisions matter.
Electrical and water safety: valve-supply and board-output tests involve live voltage. Disconnect power and shut off water before internal service.
