Ice Kept Building on the Evaporator Instead of Releasing
The sensor first suspected in the discussion did not initiate harvest. On the described sequence it reacts after ice falls, while the timed control and heat-delivery valve make release possible.
Why the visible sensor was not the first answer
The MIM50P froze ice normally enough for a growing slab to form, but the ice never dropped into the bin. The proposed sensor monitors the fallen ice and restarts the cycle; it does not tell the evaporator when to release an attached slab.
A similar symptom can have a different cause on another ice machine. The exact harvest sequence must define what each sensor controls.
The two harvest branches
Timed control
The discussion described harvest as time-driven, leaving the control board responsible for advancing the sequence.
Hot-gas or reversing valve
The valve has to deliver heat to the evaporator so the completed ice can release.
What to record before parts are ordered
- Time how long the machine remains in freeze before the slab grows abnormally.
- Record whether any valve sound or temperature change occurs at expected harvest.
- Note whether the bin sensor changes state only after manual ice removal.
- Provide the full MIM50P suffix and control history.
The source ended before either the board or valve was tested.
