A Code Narrows the Question; It Does Not Finish the Diagnosis
Use the exact code, full model and operating state together. Similar-looking codes can mean different things across product families.
Information that belongs beside the code
- Full model number, including suffix.
- Exact capitalization and characters shown on the display.
- Mode or cycle in progress when the code appears.
- Whether the code returns immediately after a safe power reset.
- Measurements, prior parts and configuration steps already attempted.
The same symptom can have a different cause, and the same displayed code may still require different tests before a component is condemned.
How to use the evidence behind a code
Treat the displayed code as the start of a diagnostic sequence, not as a parts order. Each page identifies the physical observation, measurement or behavior that narrowed the fault, then gives a model-aware way to verify the conclusion. That evidence chain is more useful than the code label by itself.
Safety: reading a code is low risk. Accessing live circuits, gas systems, microwave high voltage or refrigeration circuits is not a homeowner diagnostic step.
