The Leak Lasted About Five Minutes, Then Stopped by Itself

Because it repeated during one cycle phase, the case pointed beyond a constant door seal leak toward changing spray pressure and direction.

What made this leak different

  • The dishwasher had operated for about two years before the complaint.
  • Water escaped only from the right side of the door.
  • The leak lasted roughly five minutes in one phase of every cycle.

  • Level, gaskets and obvious spray-arm damage had been checked.

A similar symptom can have a different cause on another dishwasher. The repeatable timing is a clue to observe spray behavior, not proof of one plastic part.

How spray direction can create a temporary overflow

A technician described a similar repair where worn spray-arm and upper-rack feed parts reduced or redirected pressure. The lower arm could stop and send water toward one side long enough to build waves over the tub edge.

Replacing three worn plastic parts corrected that other machine. Replacing its circulation pump had not helped, which is useful failed-attempt evidence but not the final diagnosis here.

What to observe safely

  • Record the cycle time when leaking begins and ends.
  • Check that racks seat fully and their feed connection aligns.
  • Inspect spray arms for binding, split seams and blocked jets.
  • Stop using the machine if water reaches flooring or electrical areas.
Water safety: do not defeat the door latch to watch an operating spray system. Internal observation and pressure diagnosis require safe service procedures.
