Several Unpredictable States Pointed Toward the Interface Path
The dishwasher could freeze mid-cycle, refuse to start or blink after a reset. That pattern made the UI a useful first branch, but the source did not report a completed repair on this machine.
What the appliance did
- It sometimes froze in the middle of a cycle.
- At other times it would not start.
- A power reset sometimes restored it and sometimes did not.
- The panel could blink or appear to issue unpredictable responses.
A similar symptom can have a different cause on another dishwasher. Supply, moisture, connectors, UI and main control all remain possible until this model is tested.
Why the UI was considered before the main board
A technician described two other LG dishwashers with severe random interface behavior where replacing the UI helped. One was dead and another acted as though buttons were pressing themselves.
Those prior outcomes strengthen the UI branch but do not prove it in this LDF5545ST. The current source ended after the recommendation.
Evidence to capture
- Video the panel when it blinks or changes state.
- Record whether the failure follows steam, door movement or a specific cycle stage.
- Note how long power must be removed before behavior changes.
- Preserve the full model and prior UI or main-board history.
Electrical safety: never unplug or reconnect UI and control-board connectors while energized. The source explicitly warned that live connector removal can damage electronics.
