HC Returned About Two Weeks After the Sensor Was Replaced

The dryer had been cleaned and the outdoor exhaust was reported strong. That repeat failure made the original sensor-only diagnosis incomplete.

What the repeat failure established

  • The complaint was a recurring HC display.
  • A temperature sensor had already been replaced.
  • The dryer then operated for roughly half a month before the problem returned.
  • The machine was described as clean with strong exhaust outdoors.

The same symptom can have a different cause on another dryer. A returning code after a new sensor is evidence to test the whole heat-control chain, not proof that the new sensor failed.

Why the first sensor test was questioned

The author described the original sensor as failed because it did not show continuity. Another technician challenged that conclusion. A thermistor must be compared with the resistance and temperature relationship specified for the exact model; a generic continuity expectation is not enough.

Branches that remained open

  1. Verify airflow under actual operating conditions, not only an empty visual check.
  2. Inspect whether the heater or its conductor can contact the cabinet.
  3. Compare sensor readings with the model temperature chart.
  4. Test wiring and the control output before replacing another sensor or board.
Fire and electrical safety: stop using a dryer that overheats, smells hot or shows repeated HC. Heater grounding and live control tests require qualified service.
