Timed Dry Worked, but Sensor Cycles Decided the Load Was Finished
Normal and other automatic programs started correctly, then the display fell to one minute after three to five minutes. The sensor strips and wiring had continuity, but the same symptom remained.
What the difference between Timed Dry and Auto tells you
Timed Dry follows a selected duration and does not rely on the same dryness decision used by automatic cycles. If one mode continues and the other ends early, the moisture-sensing branch, load contact and conditions around that measurement become more important.
A similar symptom can have a different cause on another dryer. A very small load, coated sensor bars, poor grounding, wiring trouble, airflow or a control fault can produce an early finish.
Why continuity is necessary but not a complete sensor test
Continuity confirms that a conductor is not fully open during the check. It does not prove that connectors maintain contact with vibration, that the bars respond to damp fabric, or that the board reads the changing signal correctly.
The source used a wet towel as the load, but the technician did not have alcohol and did not report completing the recommended cleaning of the sensor strips and blower thermistor. The symptom remained after reassembly, keeping the board in the diagnostic tree without confirming it as the failed part.
A useful order for the next tests
- Repeat the comparison with a representative damp load, not an empty drum.
- Clean and inspect both sensing strips and their mounting area.
- Check the harness and connector fit from the bars to the control.
- Verify exhaust flow and temperature sensing under the same cycle.
- Use model-specific service data before condemning the control.
