It First Stopped After Five Minutes, Then Would Not Start at All
The change over time linked the dead dryer to earlier overheating. A thermal cutoff was identified, but vent cleaning was the step reported to prevent the same condition from simply returning.
What had already failed to solve it
- The original complaint was shutdown after about five minutes.
- The dryer later became completely unresponsive.
- The timer, door sensor and push-to-start switch were replaced during repeated visits.

Why replacing only the cutoff invited another return
A thermal cutoff opens because its temperature limit is exceeded. Replacing it restores the circuit but does not remove restricted airflow, a dragging load or another heat source.
The author later reported that a prior thermostat replacement had returned, while cleaning the ventilation helped. That closes the evidence chain more strongly than the earlier guesses.
What to check from outside
- Stop using the dryer if the cabinet or room becomes unusually hot.
- Check whether the outside termination opens and passes airflow.
- Record whether the dryer runs normally only when disconnected from the house duct.
- Have the bearing and drum load checked while the unit is open.
