Fresh Water Kept Entering Until It Drained Away

Water movement during harvest can be normal recirculation. This case was different: the inlet stayed open and continued adding water.

The distinction that matters

During a normal freeze or harvest sequence, an ice machine may circulate the same reservoir water over the evaporator. The reported problem was continuous fresh-water admission followed by water leaving through the drain.

The same symptom can have a different cause on another ice machine. First establish whether the water is recirculating or the building supply is still entering.

Why the inlet design had to be identified

The inlet was reported open continuously. The discussion then asked whether the machine used a mechanical float valve or an electrically controlled solenoid. Those designs require different tests. The machine was too heavy to move for rear access, so the design and cause remained unknown.

What qualified service should verify

  1. Identify the exact model and normal water sequence.
  2. Confirm whether fresh water continues entering after the expected fill.
  3. Identify float or solenoid control from the diagram.
  4. Separate a stuck mechanism from a continuous electrical command.
Commercial water and electrical safety: shut off water and power before inlet access. Heavy machines require safe moving equipment, and an energized valve must not be tested around uncontrolled water.
