Freezer Cold, Refrigerator Warm

A practical order for narrowing the cause

  1. Confirm the real temperature in both sections.
  2. Check doors, visible ice, accessible vents and sounds.
  3. Trace the cold-air supply and return paths.
  4. Check the fan, damper and defrost system.

Does a cold freezer prove the compressor is good?

Not in every design. A dual-system or valve-controlled refrigerator can have a section-specific compressor or refrigerant-distribution fault.

Does weak airflow mean the damper has failed?

No. Ice, a blocked return, a fan problem and even testing with another door open can produce the same impression.

Can a full defrost solve the problem?
